    What is JPG?

JPG (or JPEG) is the most widely supported photo format. It uses lossy compression, so files are small, and it works in every app, website and printer.

    Why convert to WebP?

WebP is a modern web format from Google. It is usually 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same quality and supports transparency, but some older apps and editors can’t open it.

    Private and free

Your images are converted by your own browser and never uploaded to a server. There’s no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many times you use it.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I convert JPG to WebP?

Drop your JPG files onto the box above or click to choose them. They are converted to WebP straight away; press Download for each one, or Download all to get a ZIP. You can change the output format or quality in the settings at any time.

Will converting improve the quality of my photo?

No. Converting can’t restore detail that JPG compression already removed. Converting to PNG prevents further loss when you edit and re-save the image, but the file will be larger.

    Can everyone open WebP files?

All modern browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari) display WebP, and so do recent versions of Windows, macOS, Android and iOS. Some older software and print services don’t, so keep a JPG copy for those.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion happens inside your browser on your own device, so your photos are never uploaded, stored or seen by anyone. It also works offline once the page has loaded.

Is there a limit on file size or number of images?

You can convert up to 50 images at a time. There is no file size limit beyond what your device’s memory can handle; very large photos (over 50 megapixels) may be slow on older phones.
