Compress Image to 20KB
Reduce any photo to 20KB or less in seconds, at the best quality that fits. Perfect for signature uploads for exam and job applications, or any upload with a size limit. Your photos never leave your device.
More options: exact pixels and format
For forms that require, for example, 200 × 230 px. The photo is cropped to fit around its center. Leave empty to keep the original shape.
JPG is accepted everywhere. WebP looks better at the same size but some forms don’t accept it.
How to compress an image to 20KB
- The size is already set to 20KB; change it any time.
- Drop your photo onto the box, or click to choose it from your phone or computer. HEIC photos from iPhones work too.
- If the form asks for exact pixels (such as 200 × 230 px), open More options and enter them.
- Press Download. Several photos? Use Download all to get a ZIP.
What is a 20KB image used for?
- Signature uploads for exam and job applications
- Passport-size photos on forms with a 20KB limit
- Profile pictures on older portals
- Email signatures and small logos
Best dimensions for a 20KB photo
For a sharp result at 20KB, aim for about 300 × 400 px for a photo, or 300 × 100 px for a signature. For a passport-size photo, crop to the head and shoulders first. Set exact pixel dimensions if the form asks for them (for example 200 × 230 px), then the tool lowers the quality just enough to fit 20KB.
How the compression works
The tool first tries the highest JPG quality. If the file is too big, it finds the highest quality that fits in 20KB; only if that isn’t enough does it reduce the width and height, a little at a time. You get the largest, sharpest image that is still under the limit, never a file that a form would reject for being one byte too big.
Tips for application forms
- Read the form’s rules: most give a range such as 20–50 KB and sometimes exact pixel dimensions.
- Choose a size a little under the maximum, for example 45 KB for a 50 KB limit.
- Use a plain, light background and good light: plain backgrounds compress far better than busy ones.
- Crop signatures closely and scan them on white paper so they stay crisp at 10–20 KB.
- Save as JPG unless the form says otherwise; it is accepted everywhere.

Frequently asked questions
How do I compress an image to 20KB?
Drop your photo onto the box above (or click to choose it). The size is already set to 20KB, so it is compressed straight away; press Download to save the JPG. To fit an exact shape, enter the width and height in pixels under the settings.
How can I reduce a photo to 20KB without losing quality?
The tool keeps the highest JPG quality that fits in 20KB and only reduces the dimensions when it has to. For the sharpest result, crop away anything you don’t need first and use a plain background: less detail means more quality left for what matters. Recommended size at 20KB: about 300 × 400 px for a photo, or 300 × 100 px for a signature.
How do I reduce a signature to 20KB?
Sign on plain white paper, take a well-lit photo or scan, and crop tightly around the signature. Drop the image here with the size set to 20KB. Signatures are mostly white space, so they compress well and stay sharp.
Why is my image a little smaller than 20KB?
The tool picks the highest quality that stays at or below 20KB, because forms reject files that are even one byte over. Here 1KB = 1,024 bytes (20KB = 20,480 bytes), as most upload forms count it. If a site counts 1KB as 1,000 bytes, choose a size about 3% smaller to be safe.
Can I compress PNG, HEIC or WebP images too?
Yes. You can drop JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF and iPhone HEIC photos. They are saved as JPG, which every form accepts, or as WebP if you choose it. Transparent areas in PNGs are filled with white.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser on your own device, so photos of your face, ID or documents are never sent to a server. It even works offline once the page has loaded.
