Differences
How to compare two texts
Paste the original version on the left and the changed version on the right. Removed lines are shown in red with a minus sign, added lines in green with a plus sign. When a line was edited, the exact words that changed are highlighted inside it.
Use it to check edits to contracts and essays, compare two versions of a config file, or spot what changed between drafts.
Frequently asked questions
How does the comparison work?
It finds the longest sequence of lines (or words) the two texts share, then marks everything else as added or removed. This is the same method developers use to compare versions of code.
Should I compare by line or by word?
Use lines for code, lists and long documents. Use words for edited paragraphs where only a few words changed inside a sentence.
Can it ignore differences in spacing or capitals?
Yes. Turn on “Ignore case” or “Ignore extra spaces” to hide differences you don’t care about.
